North Carolina NIL Law for NCAA
On July 2nd, 2021, North Carolina enacted a Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) law for their colleges and institutions. North Carolina is one of the first states to see the legislation go live, as it is effective July 2, 2021. Governor Roy Cooper signed Executive Order 223 allowing intercollegiate student athletes the ability to earn compensation for the use of their NIL. However, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper rescinded Executive Order 223 on March 8, 2024 leaving North Carolina with no NIL legislation in place.
