Last July, the NCAA told schools to follow school policy or state laws when it came to NIL on their campuses. Now 7 months later is it time for the NCAA to step in and set additional guidelines? At this point, the only rule they enforce is that student-athletes can not be paid for simply being athletes.

J.R. Smith a former NBA star has returned to college and joined the golf team at North Caroline A&T. As a student-athlete Smith is eligible for the same NIL opportunities as all other collegiate athletes. He recently signed with Excel Sports to handle his NIL deals.
