Gobble, gobble! Going back for second NIL helpings, for sure!

As we enter the holiday season, we have a lot to be thankful for. NIL has opened new doors for thousands of student-athletes and we get a front-row seat to these life-changing opportunities.

NIL AND TITLE IX MAY BE ON A COLLISION COURSE

History collides: NIL and Title IX

How will NIL affect Title IX on college campuses? If an Institution helps any athletes secure NIL deals, they must provide equal opportunities to the opposite gender. ‘Passed almost 50 years ago by the U.S. Congress, Title IX says, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” (20 U.S.C. § 1681(a))’

Not all professional athletes have made a decision on the new NIL legislations. Alex Rodriquez told Yahoo Finance, “I’m watching, I’m curious,” he says. “I think there’s not enough information or data out there really for me to make a decision on it. I’m certainly watching closely.”

Lyle Adams

Spry’s Founder and CEO & NCAA Men’s Soccer Champion

Lyle was a member of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship team at Wake Forest. After embarking on a professional soccer career, Lyle transitioned to the tech industry, where he was one of the first 100 employees at Uber, designing platforms and tools for data consumers. Lyle also holds a Master’s in Sports Management from Columbia University.
