Junior Varsity

A secondary tier of athletic competition which consists primarily of underclassmen who are determined by the coaching staff to have less experience or ability than students on the varsity roster. Junior varsity teams are used to prepare these athletes to compete at the varsity level. While less common at the collegiate level compared to high school, a number of college athletic teams do field junior varsity teams.
