What is a sports camp?

A sports camp is an activity that is designed to provide instruction to increase the overall skill and general knowledge of a sport.

Are sports camps considered a tryout?

No, sports camps are exceptions to the tryout rule.

Is it permissible for student-athletes to be employed at their institution’s camps?

Yes

Is it permissible for student-athletes to run their own camps?

Yes, this is now permissible under the new NIL legislation.

May an institutional sports camp take place during a recruiting shutdown or dead period?

No

May a coach engage in recruiting during a sports camp?

In some sports it is permissible for a recruiting conversation to occur, however written offers of athletic aid are not permitted during camps.
